How to Increase Your Likelihood For Creating Wealth

creating wealthThere are a multitude of factors that come into play in the process of creating wealth.  Discipline and Consistency are at the top of that list, but one other less obvious yet very important factor that can determine your likelihood to succeed is the influence and association you have with other wealthy people.

Everyone’s heard the old maxim: Birds of a feather flock together.  And it’s also true when it comes to creating wealth.

There have been studies done that show: you are the average of the 5 or 6 people you spend the most time with.  Do a quick mental assessment: who are the 5 or 6 people in your life that you spend the majority of your time with?

Would that include your spouse?  Your kids?  Your neighbors?  Relatives?  College drinking buddies?  Your co-workers?  Now take the time to make that list to narrow it down and figure out who those 5 or 6 people would be that you spend the MOST time with.

Now: do you want to know your future? Average out the activities, behaviors, attitudes, education, passion, ambition, social life, health, wealth and other important habits of these people and you will uncover what your future holds.

This can either be an encouraging or frightening realization!

Now if you’re thinking at this point you’re S.O.L., hold that thought and let me finish…

First of all, most people would fall into the first category because by default you will go the path of least resistance, meaning you will mold or merge with your surrounding environment.  This isn’t a bad thing or a good thing, that’s just the way we’re designed.  Creating wealth is a process.

However, now that you know this, the good news is you can change it!  That’s what separates human’s from every other species on the planet.  We all have the ability to choose rather than just react. We can recognize a situation and if doesn’t serve us, we can change it – but it won’t happen on its own.

Now, I’m not saying you need to delete those people’s numbers from your cell phone and unfriend them from facebook and avoid them at all costs.  That is an unhealthy, violent and an irrational way to try and change your associations and influences in your quest for creating wealth.  I should know, as I tried this approach when building my first business taking this advice literally, thinking the “sacrifice” I was making of isolating myself from what I believed was everyone ELSE that was holding me back, would help me reach my goals.  However, all I had to show for it was hurt and pain and it didn’t help me get closer to my goals, but perhaps pushed me away even further.

So no, I do not condone that approach.

A Creating Wealth secret I didn’t disclose earlier about influences and associations:

When you take a look at those 5 or 6 people that you spend the most time with, be sure to include ALL influences, including those in addition to the actual face-to-face time you spend with people: the newspaper articles you read, the nightly news you watch on tv, the radio personalities you listen to on the way to and from work, the music (lyrics) that you hear everyday, etc…

If you happen to spend the majority of your time listening to the news and reading gossip magazines for example, that means you are allowing your mind to be consistently bombarded daily by possibly 2, 3, 4 or more hours of murders, rape, theft, disaster, tragedy, jealousy, greed – basically all the worst things you could possibly subject yourself to.

Do you think this has any impact on your attitude for the day?  Your belief in yourself?  Your ability to perform?  Your desire to accomplish more?

Of course it does. These repetitive negative influences can inflict incredible havoc on your life without you even knowing it and drastically impair, if not altogether remove, your ability for creating wealth or achieving success in any area of your life.

Here’s how how you can take advantage of this creating wealth secret so that it can serve you:

First of all, wouldn’t it make sense to surround yourself with some of the most successful, profitable, wealthy, motivated, skilled, intelligent, hard-working, well-connected and creative people out there?  What if your 5-6 person circle of influence included these people?  How different do you think your life would be?

Are you finding yourself making excuses –

“I don’t know anyone like that.  They would never associate with me.  I don’t have time to seek out or meet with people with like that.  People like that don’t associate with me…”

The chatter may continue for several hours, and if you’re not careful perhaps for months, years or even decades for those not serious enough about making a lasting change in their life.

Here’s the good news: there’s a shortcut!

So how does one surround themselves around people of great influence, for acquiring or creating wealth, knowledge, wisdom, health, etc?

Here’s the shortcut for increasing your odds and shortening the time-frame for creating wealth and achieving success in all areas of your life:

Keep your existing friends, relatives, etc and instead begin surrounding yourself with the TEACHINGS and LESSONS of those whom you’d like to emulate!

In other words, it doesn’t have to be live, face to face, person to person.  Many of the top achievers in any industry have produced books, audio tapes and seminars that you can gain access to, learn from and implement on a daily basis, thereby in effect absorbing their important messages, attitudes, and mindsets.  Doing so tends to drown out the complaints, problems, fear and anxiety most people feel compelled (subconsciously) to listen to and participate in.  All of  a sudden you find your focus begins to lock in on your dreams and goals and you begin taking action towards the things that will bring you closer and closer to your goals.

All of a sudden you find that you are spending the majority of your time NOT with your well-meaning  but broke friends and/or family, but rather with some of the greatest minds, entrepreneurs, and leaders of our time.  You find yourself automatically more focused and determined to succeed because of this daily mindfeed.  You being feeding your mind with positive, motivational, how-to-succeed material which leads to a drastic increase in self-confidence and self-worth and after a short period of time you come to realize your life has changed – and in as little as a week even!  I encourage you to try it – what do you have to lose?

All of a sudden you will realize that no longer are the negative people in your life the biggest influence in your life, but rather, because you are spending the majority of your free time focused on learning from the best of the best in the industry, now the 5-6 people you are spending the most time with become Jim Rohn, Darren Hardy, Brian Tracy, Napoleon Hill, George Clason, Dale Carnegie, Anthony Robbins, etc.

By simply choosing instead to immerse yourself in this type of mindfeed or influence, in a very short period of time you all of a sudden begin to realize that your income increases, your level of health increases, your finances improve, your social life becomes more rewarding…  It has a snowball effect as one area begins to affect the next.  These are the rewards for those who CHOOSE to design their life and bring their goals and dreams of creating wealth to life by simply CHOOSING to actively select the influences they want to appear in their life.

You don’t have to cut people out of your life.  If you choose creating wealth and living your life to the best of your abilities, you can simply choose to spend more time with the people who will take you closer to your goals and dreams.  By simply focusing on this objective, the law of attraction will come into play and you will repel the people in your life who are not in line with your philosophy, you will automatically begin to lose touch with them (in the interim), and your mindset and attitude will become laser-sharp, allowing you to produce more and ultimately earn more. You can only attract who you are, no one more, no one less.

Therefore, in conclusion, do not focus on looking for people to dis-clude from your life, but instead focus on adding more value to your life by adding in more positive, uplifting, motivational and instructional MINDFEED to help increase and improve your skills so you can be creating wealth.  By doing so you drastically increase your chances for success as well as happiness by constantly bombarding your life with the kinds of messages and content daily that will help you along your way and quicken that path to success in creating wealth!  Good luck and stay focused.

“you are the average of the 5 or 6 people you spend the most time with”

That’s an interesting concept but it can be hard to get rid of your family members that drain all your energy as at the end of the day they are still your family.

Katie, lol, I don’t recommend that. I unfortunately attempted to follow that strict interpretation of that and do not recommend it. Instead, track the amount of time you spend around other people each day, whether at home, at work, etc and figure out how much of the time you could be receiving negative input versus positive, uplifting, motivational or instructional input. Then simply figure out how to increase the time you’re in a positive, motivational environment by attending seminars, studying home courses, listening to tapes/cds/mp2s while in your car or at the gym, shopping, running errands, etc. The more you can involve your other family members in that process the easier and more fun it will become. Jim Rohn audios are a great example with simple yet profound ideas that everyone can appreciate and apply – try it and see what happens! Hope that helps!

Must say it is hard to just eliminate people from the life, however it really does help to limit the time spent with them. Great words of wisdom here you have, spoken from experience I am sure. Amazing what living it does! I also have to really believe that I can have, reading and hanging out with and reminding myself and all that you have mentioned is wonderful and totally useful. For me I have to feel it and believe it. Great post!
